The ‘Wounded Healer’ is an age-old archetype, dating back to Babylonian times, and revived by ancient Greek mythology. You have here Centaur, a mythological hybrid between a man and a deer who was wounded once but survived his death and became a healer for the youth. On the graphics you see that he took aboard a sick young boy who smiles at him, and who is going to be healed by him.
But the myth is even more encompassing. It is not just about a wounded creature getting into a vocation to heal others, but also about the desire of this man—who is equally transformed, from the procreational desire of a ‘family man’ to the more marginal desire of a man-deer who loves young boys.
The ‘wounded healer’ archetype has been eternalized by astrology where it got associated with the sign of Sagittarius, and the planet Chiron, the bower, the sportive youth, but also the social reformer. It is the Ascendant in my astrological chart and thus a formative energy for me, personally.
It has powerfully made itself manifest after a suicide attempt I committed back in 1984 in Switzerland, when I was suddenly attracted to young boys around the age of puberty. This attraction resulted in an outburst of creativity on all levels, in prose and poetry, in painting and drawing, and in a wider-ranging philosophical quest.
